Capitol Hill Housing stands in solidarity with Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County’s call for a Statewide General Strike and March for Black Lives this Friday, June 12th.
Place matters. We are acutely aware of our position as an affordable housing organization based in a city with a shameful history of redlining that has disproportionately impacted African Americans. It has been well documented that your zip code can be a predictor of how long you live, with a distance of a few blocks or miles having a 20 year difference in lifespans. We work to keep neighborhoods affordable so people can thrive in their communities.
Out of solidarity, our organization and our office will be closed on Friday. Other local affordable housing organizations are joining the strike as well, and we anticipate a collective presence.
We stand together with those seeking justice, system change, and the end of unwarranted police violence. We will continue to listen, learn, and take meaningful action in the fight for equality.
