Frequently Asked Questions

All of our apartments have income maximums related to the number of people in the household. Unit Area Median Income (unit AMI) refers to the maximum income allowed for that apartment. For a preliminary walk-through of determining your income and what unit AMI you may qualify for, see the calculate your income page. Community Roots Housing staff will be happy to do a more thorough calculation with you in person when you apply for a specific apartment.

Applicants who do not meet Community Roots Housing’s eligibility criteria can apply for an exception made through the Individual Assessment process. Please see the Individual Assessment requirements for more details.

Persons seeking a reasonable accommodation or modification due to a disability should complete a Reasonable Accommodation/Modification Request form at the time of application.

Our site managers are very busy – sometimes they receive dozens of calls about a single apartment! In keeping with Seattle’s “First in Time” ordinance, applicants will be called in the order in which they called. Don’t panic if you don’t hear back immediately. It is very common for it to take around a week for a site manager to return all calls.

Community Roots Housing does not accept Comprehensive Reusable Tenant Screening Reports.

Pets as well as emotional support, companion, and service animals are allowed in all Community Roots Housing buildings. Some restrictions may apply to certain types of pets. Site managers can answer detailed questions about pet restrictions.

Feel free to call our office at (206) 329-7303 or contact us during office hours for an appointment. You can also email your questions to info@communityrootshousing.org. One of our team members will be happy to help you find a place to put down roots.
