Important documents

If you’re applying for a HUD-subsidized property, see our separate steps and forms for HUD-subsidized housing.

Step 1: Prescreening

Contact the leasing line by calling (206) 895-1400 or emailing leasinginfo@communityrootshousing.org. We receive dozens of inquiries a day and are required to call applicants back in the order the calls were received, which can sometimes take several weeks. Please be patient while we work to match applicants with their new homes. When you are called back, you will be asked a series of questions to determine your eligibility for our different apartments. These questions may include inquiries about your:

  • Income
  • Household size
  • Student status
  • Rental history
  • Target move-in date

For more information on what apartments you might qualify for, take a look at our eligibility guidelines. Individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing can use TTY 1-800-833-6388. If you have general questions, would like an interpreter, or need accommodations to apply, please call our main line at (206) 329-7303 or email us, and we will make arrangements in advance.

Step 2: Tour the apartment

When the leasing team calls to screen for eligibility, they will also create an appointment for you to meet with the building manager and tour the apartment. You should bring this list of important documents with you to your appointment. Use this time to ask any questions you may have about the building, and be sure to explore the neighborhood. If you feel it’s a good fit, you will fill out an application for the apartment on site.

Step 3: Application processing

After completing your application, the leasing team will review your materials and verify submitted details. If they have any follow-up questions, they may reach out to you for clarification or additional information. Application processing can take 5-10 weeks to complete; we appreciate your patience as we get all the documentation in order.

Step 4: Sign your lease

After your application has been processed and all your details have been confirmed, you’ll sign the lease for your new home! Welcome to the Community Roots Housing family.

I haven’t had to leave where I feel I resonate…I’m just really grateful that we have a place that’s safe, it’s healthy, I have a place to call home. I just really want to get that message out – how appreciative I am that there’s a community like Community Roots Housing, that there is affordable housing in this town.
