Join us on Saturday, October 5, 2024 for the grand opening of Africatown Plaza! Building on the success of the nearby Liberty Bank Building, Africatown Community Land Trust and Community Roots Housing have partnered again to address affordability, displacement, and cultural preservation in the Central District with Africatown Plaza.
Seattle’s Central District has been the center of Black and African diaspora life in Seattle for over a century. However, in recent decades the once-majority Black population in the neighborhood plummeted, longstanding businesses closed, and cultural anchors were displaced. Africatown Plaza joins the placemaking renaissance of the historic 23rd & Union area, aiming to combat these inequities by creating 126 affordable rental apartments for households earning up to 60% of the area median income. The building is designed to affirm the pan-African community and will join the Liberty Bank Building as a cultural anchor in the neighborhood.
Celebrate with us on October 5 and see Africatown Plaza for yourself! RSVP here.
