Top of the Town

Thursday, May 8 | 5:30 – 9 p.m. | Edgewater Hotel

Join us for Top of the Town on May 8

Top of the Town, Community Roots’ spring fundraising dinner, will return to the Edgewater Hotel on Thursday, May 8. Join us for an inspiring evening with thought leaders, community developers, and housing advocates who believe in building a more affordable Seattle.

As rising rents continue to strain the region, it is becoming harder for working people to live in Seattle. Increasingly, the impact falls on those who can least afford it: seniors on fixed incomes, teachers, freelance artists, and people transitioning out of homelessness. Top of the Town raises critical funds to address displacement through the development, preservation and operation of affordable housing. This event is an opportunity to take action and help create a more equitable city.

Event donations, ticket sales, and sponsorships sustain our work to combat the housing crisis.

Meet the speaker

Joe Nguyễn

Director for the Washington Department of Commerce

Commerce Director Joe Nguyễn was born and raised in Seattle. His experiences as a life-long Washington resident and second-generation Vietnamese American make him an ardent champion for investing in Washington families and residents, expanding economic opportunities, and taking bold steps in our fight against the climate crisis.

Gov. Bob Ferguson appointed Joe as Commerce Director on Dec. 27, 2024. He took the helm at Commerce on Jan. 15, 2025. Before that, he was a state senator from 2019-2024. In the senate, he chaired the Environment, Energy & Technology Committee and supported legislation for housing affordability, health care, public transit, climate, and education. He is a longtime advocate for working families and community members who are historically left out of the political process.
