Emergency Rental Assistance

What is Emergency Rental Assistance?

Community Roots can provide one-time emergency rental assistance to Community Roots’ residents. It is designed to help residents who have had an accident or unforeseen circumstance disrupt their ability to pay up to one month’s rent. This program is designed as a small safety net to keep residents financially stable and from falling behind on their rent.

See below if the program is accepting applications.

Check the eligibility criteria below to learn if you qualify.

How does it work?

Emergency Rental Assistance funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served rolling basis. The applications may close at any time without notice. Applying does not guarantee funding.

Households can request assistance equal to or up to one month’s rent. Only current months balances are eligible. Emergency Rental Assistance cannot proactively pay future balances nor prior months balances. The funds will be applied to the current month’s balance, if approved.

Who is eligible?

  • You are a Community Roots Housing resident.
  • Your household must have experienced an emergency or unexpected event that impacted your ability to pay rent.
  • Your household is behind on rent by only one month or less at the time of application. “Less than one month’s rent” means that it can help cover what you may still owe from previous partial rent payments.
  • Only current months balances are eligible. This fund will not proactively pay future balances or prior months balances. The funds will be applied to the current month’s balance, if approved.
  • Households cannot access this funding more frequently than once every 12 months.
