Omnivorous

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2020

Each year, Community Roots Housing (formerly Capitol Hill Housing) brings together some of Seattle’s finest bars, restaurants, and distilleries for a night of exquisite food and drink in support of our work. Although we can’t meet in person this year for our usual fundraising feast, we are holding a reimagined Omnivorous.

We're Cooking Up Something New

Working in the community is our bread and butter. This year, a virtual program will discuss how we can work together to nourish our community. Tune in to see local chefs, restaurateurs, and small business owners join Community Roots Housing CEO Christopher Persons in a dynamic conversation.

Check out Donna Moodie and Kristi Brown’s conversation about food and community below!

Rent Relief

The year 2020 has laid bare many injustices. One of them is the way that COVID-19 and its economic impacts have disproportionately affected low-income people, service workers, the elderly, and communities of color – so many of whom are Community Roots residents. That is why, for the first time in the history of this event, every dollar raised will go directly to rental assistance.

Immerse Yourself

This year’s event will kick off with a cocktail class, giving viewers a taste of what Immersive level ticket holders will get to enjoy after the program. The experts over at L’Oursin will provide a step-by-step tutorial on how to mix up a bitter kir, featuring Fernet-Branca. Additional food and drink lessons hosted by local culinary scene experts will begin after the main program concludes.

You can find some of the recipes here.

Thanks to Cafe Campagne, L’Oursin, MarjorieMusangOsteria la SpigaQuillisascut FarmsTaylor ShellfishUncle Nearest, and Where Ya At Matt for lending your expertise!

The Main Program

  • Christopher Persons, CEO of Community Roots Housing
  • Donna Moodie, executive director of the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict and owner of Marjorie restaurant
  • Kristi Brown, co-founder and owner of That Brown Girl Cooks! and the upcoming Communion restaurant
  • Tak Kurachi, owner of U:Don restaurant
  • Community Roots resident, special guest

Aprons On

Usually too many cooks in the kitchen is a recipe for disaster, but not at this year’s Omnivorous! Chefs and mixologists from around Seattle will be hosting virtual culinary and cocktail demonstration rooms after the main event. Immersive ticket holders are welcome in any demonstration room – it all boils down to what you prefer. Shortly before the event, links to the demonstration rooms will be sent to all Immersive Level ticket holders, who can then choose which room they would like to attend.
