Community Roots Housing is excited to redevelop the corner of Broadway and East Pine Street in partnership with local service provider YouthCare. The new mixed-use building at 1534 Broadway will include approximately 100 low income housing units and an education and employment academy for young people who have experienced homelessness. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2022 and finish by early 2024. This site is the former South Annex of Seattle Central College and includes the three parcels west of the adjacent Oddfellows building. This project is across the street from Community Roots Housing’s existing Broadway Crossing building and LGBTQ-Affirming Affordable Senior Housing project, which is also in pre-development. This project will provide a unique opportunity to support young people who have experienced homelessness to achieve lasting stability and add much needed affordable housing to the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
YouthCare’s education and employment programming will focus on supporting young people to overcome barriers, build technical and leadership skills, and move on to a career pathway that leverages their potential. The first three floors of this building will be dedicated to services that enable young people to discover their passion and prepare to thrive in the regional economy. These classrooms will encourage diverse learning styles and help to build confidence with each student scholar.
